auDA (au Domain Administration) Registration Guidelines


com.au and net.au
In order to register a com.au or net.au domain name you must fall into one of the following six categories and fill out in full the specified fields:

1) If you are an Australian registered company

1. Your company name; and
2. Your Australian Company Number (ACN)

2) If you are Trading under an Australian Registered Business Name

1. Your registered business name; and
2. State or Territory of registration; and
3. Your Registered Business Number

3) If you are an Australian partnership or sole trader

1. Your Trading name; and
2. Your Australian Business Number (ABN)

4) If you are a Foreign company licensed to trade in Australia

1. Your Company name; and
2. Your Australian Registered Body Number (ARBN)

5) If you are an Australian Registered Trade Mark Owner

1. The Name of owner of the trademark; and
2. The words comprising the trade mark; and
3. The Trade Mark Number

6) If you are an Australian Registered Trade Mark Applicant

1. Name of applicant; and
2. Words comprising trade mark application; and
3. Trade Mark Number

Restrictions:
There are certain restrictions on the com.au and net.au domain names you are allowed to purchase.

Your domain individual name must:

1. Be an exact match of your business name or trademark or,
2. Be an abbreviation or acronym of your business name or trademark or,
3. Have a close and substantial connection with your business type.

Examples of Close and Substantial Connections

* a product that your business manufactures or sells; or
* a service that your business provides; or
* an event that your business organises or sponsors; or
* an activity that your business facilitates, teaches or trains; or
* a venue that your business operates; or
* a profession that your business' employees practise.

org.au
1. To be eligible in org.au, registrants must be:

a) an association incorporated in any Australian State or Territory; or
b) a political party registered with the Australian Electoral Commission; or
c) a trade union or other organisation registered under the Workplace Relations Act 1996; or
d) a sporting or special interest club operating in Australia; or
e) a charity operating in Australia, as defined in the registrant's constitution or other documents of incorporation; or
f) a non-profit organisation operating in Australia, as defined in the registrant's constitution or other documents of incorporation.

2. Domain individual names in org.au must:

a) exactly match, acronym or abbreviation of the name of the registrant's name ; or
b) be otherwise closely and substantially connected to the registrant.

asn.au
1. To be eligible in asn.au, registrants must be:

a) an association incorporated in any Australian State or Territory; or
b) a political party registered with the Australian Electoral Commission; or
c) a trade union or other organisation registered under the Workplace Relations Act 1996; or
d) a sporting or special interest club operating in Australia; or
e) a charity operating in Australia, as defined in the registrant's constitution or other documents of incorporation; or
f) a non-profit organisation operating in Australia, as defined in the registrant's constitution or other documents of incorporation.

2. Domain individual names in asn.au must:

a) exactly match, acronym or abbreviation of the name of the registrant's name ; or
b) be otherwise closely and substantially connected to the registrant.

id.au
1. To be eligible for a domain name in id.au, registrants must be:

a) an Australian citizen; or
b) an Australian resident.

2. Domain individual names in id.au must:

a) exactly match the registrant's personal name; or
b) be an acronym or abbreviation of the registrant's personal name; or
c) be otherwise closely and substantially connected to the registrant, because the domain name:

(i) is derived from one or more words of the registrant's personal name; or
(ii) includes one or more words of the registrant's personal name; or
(iii) is a personal name by which the registrant is known.
